S: I get excited when people start dancing. It doesn’t take much to get me to want to clap along and feel the groove. So you can only imagine how overwhelmed I was when the cast of Groovaloo started doing their thing. I took my 12 ½ year old son, Austin to a show that, hopefully, inspires him to take up dance!
H: Okay I thought this show was going to have some OK dancing. Well I was wrong. It turned out that they were doing flips off 10 ft high boxes and so much more. I think it would take me more than a week to learn those moves. I didn’t know some things they did were humanly possible until I saw this show
S: One week to learn those moves? I think you are being just a tad sarcastic. How about 1 year? I wasn’t aware of each dancer’s extensive resume before the show. I chose to just be surprised and take it all in. That’s what I usually do for a venue like this. Later, I read “Ovation” and re live the show by reading the background of each performer. Wow! These dancers/actors are well known, have gone places in this world and are far from retirement age. A short list of what they have done: performed with the likes of Gwen Stafani, Miley Cyrus, Paula Abdul, Maria Carey, Lady Gaga and the late Michael Jackson; acted in national commercials for Nike, Target and Levis; choreographed for “The Cat in the Hat,” and “Step Up 3-D” (which will come out this summer); and the list goes on and on.
H: The cast was very well chosen. Every person fit his or her character perfectly.
S: I agree! Reality and acting blend into a show that may bring a tear to your eye one moment and a belly laugh the next. I’m not sure I’ve ever been to a show at the PAC where there was that much whistling and clapping and cheering from the audience. We were told that the performers would give their best but fed off our coaxing them on. Well, we did and they did not let us down. Groovaloo was a delight in every way imaginable. What a great way to shake off the winter doldrums. Our Performing Arts Center did it again. It offered a show that warmed the heart and soul and encouraged the Fox Valley to share a night of pure energy! As I looked around I was warmed by the sight of smiling/happy/joyous faces. Oh what a feeling! Thank you, PAC!
