Christina LaVicka: I had to miss the incredible opening night experience of CATS at our PAC but my shoes were filled by (more than ready, willing and able) T.J. Dercks and her friend, Cole Bicchler. T.J., you have never seen this musical; did you enjoy the performance?
S: I was so excited to see CATS! Being the huge animal lover that I am, I’ve wanted to see this show for some time now. This musical has always had my curiosity. I had the opportunity to bring along my good friend Cole, who has yet to experience live theatre. So Cole, how was your very first experience at the PAC?
H: I’ll be honest, I wasn’t sure what to expect. But as the cats made their way through the aisles, with the booming music, flashing lights, and glow-in-the-dark masks, I knew I was in for a wonderful experience!
S: Yes, having the luck of an aisle seat definitely has its advantages doesn’t it?
H: As the lights dimmed, I began to feel a presence. Looking over my shoulder, I saw all the cats sneaking through the audience.
S: That was the most unique entrance I know I’ve ever seen. I won’t forget my first view of the beautiful costumes. Wild and colorful, you instantly pick out you favorites.
H: My eyes were immediately drawn to Rum Tum Tugger. His macho charisma stood out among the dainty and playful females.
S: Tugger had Elvis-like mannerisms that were certainly entertaining. However, Grizabella stole the show for me. Her voice was amazing (reason enough to go see this show!!). When she belted out “memory” it really gave me the goosebumps.
H: I agree completely! She managed to make the audience understand her journey. The strong feeling of nostalgia is something we can all appreciate. What other cats stood out for you TJ?
S: Quaxo put some real magic into the show with his graceful acrobatics.
H: Jellylorum and Gus were also an amazing duo. With both laughter and awe, they certainly delivered!
S: Still, I noticed Grizabella would be singing “memory” again in the second half and I honestly couldn’t wait. This was truly a beautiful story about the journey of life.
H: Very true, it was a wonderful reminder that we all, yes, even cats, have a unique story to share.
S: So NOW how would you address a cat?
H: Well you will certainly know the answer by the end of your journey with CATS, now playing at The Fox Cities Performing Arts Center!
Christina LaVicka: Thank you T.J. and Cole. I know you have been passing along the good news about the longest running show on Broadway. CATS is in town! Make your way there while “they” are live at our PAC right downtown Appleton.
